September Color Spot

I've been lucky enough to be invited to be featured for the September Color Spot at Let's Capture Our Memories. I had done one last year and it was a fun experience, with nothing to go on but a color swatch... This is what the owner Isabelle had to say about the post:

Hello September!

Wow!

I really had a hard time finding a color scheme for you this month. Nothing was standing out. As I was planning the crop schedule, I started looking at pictures on my phone and found some from my last trip to Scrapbook & Cards Today Crop & Create in Cornwall, Ontario last September. OH! the memories... the wonderful memories from the most amazing weekend event spent with a couple of my scrappy besties!! And as I'm getting ready to head back to Create & Create in a couple of weeks, I thought I'd share the some of the memories, the moments with you. Here's a picture I took of the a small sample of the goodies we get to savor at Crop & Create! Where has this year gone too!! I can't believe it's September already. We are busy getting the kids ready for school and dotting the i's and the crossing the t's on the activities schedule for the coming months!! Here, at LCOM, it's also the start of crop season!! My favorite season!

I asked my super scrappy friend Elisa Delora if she would have a go at this month's Color Spot and I was so happy she said yes!  I love her projects.  She is awesome a clustering and adding so much detail to her layouts.  It makes her photos and story pop up.

Here is what Elisa had to say about this month's Color Spot.

"When I first saw the September Color Spot , the first papers that came to mind were part of the Timbergrove collection by Fancy Pants Design. It almost matched perfectly, less the navy papers. For a house full of boys and boyish layouts, I realized I don't have much navy... I found a 6x6 paper pack in my stash by Fancy Pants Design, Down By The Shore, containing a navy sheet.  As usual, when you stick with the same company, most usually, the papers will match, or at least compliment each other.

Now as you may know, Timbergrove is a winter/holiday collection, quite full of hot chocolate, mittens, snowflakes and snowmen. It however perfectly matched my cozy, sleepy photo. Daddy and DS#3 had fallen asleep on the couch in a pretty cute pose. Those glasses are part of a costume, you know, the set with the fake nose and fuzzy moustache... The nose broke off, and the kids wear them, looking pretty goofy...or dapper, however you may see it. "  - Elisa Delora

How amazing is that?!   I love the her stitching is carried all over her page and the sprinkle of little hearts here and there, love!  Just like one cherishes the first bite into the chocolate covered strawberry, one can only cherish the father/son bond!!  She nailed the color spot perfectly!!"

Well, as I said, it was a pretty fun spot to do...I enjoyed it a lot. I also enjoy seeing themed papers used for other ordinary layouts, just to think outside the box. I thought it would be fun to try it too...

Thanks for looking!

Camping layouts!

I saw some mosquitos and some June bugs recently... Who cares! The countdown is on until our next camping trip! Our trailer is inspected, almost cleaned out and ready to go! I can't wait! It put me in the mood recently to scrap some of last year's trip with the cousins. What fun family memories! Can't wait to do it again this year!

Both these layouts are about a camping trip last summer at a Yogi Bear Campground in Nova Scotia. It had the flag raising every morning with one of the characters, a fun pool, a bouncy pillow- great times with the cousins...It also produced some fun comedic relief with uncle convincingly imitating Yogi saying: "Hey Boo Boo- let's go steal that picnic basket...!"  Instant title for a page!

"Jellystone Park in Nova Scotia- we saw Yogi and the gang. You guys loved the pool, the fun pillow, the mini golf course and the arcade. Mom won at Bingo and Dad played football, marking your faces with campfire ash...Yay for family!"

I used some Echo Park Happy Camper with a few embellishments from Basic Grey (canvas embellies), Studio Calico (wood veneers and stamp), Simple Stories (heart shaped embellishment), and some My Mind's Eye patterned paper and washi tape. The sketch is by Becky Fleck at Pagemaps.

This is another Pagemaps sketch with really fun Echo Park Happy Camper and more Basic Grey canvas embellishments, Studio Calico Wood Veneers, My Mind's Eye washi tape and enamel dots, a Simple Stories card, an Evalicious flair button  and a Jillibean Soup stamp.

"What a nice tradition- camping with the cousins. We discover new, interesting areas and we spend time together. The bouncy pillow, the homemade pizza and pancakes with Boo Boo were just a bonus!"

It's reveal day again at LCOM! And it's National Scrapbooking Day!!!

Are you going to do something scrappy today? I hope you'll let yourself get inspired by our reveal and this great sketch by Laura Whitaker. It took me all of 15 minutes to look at it, choose papers, a photo, and start scrapping! It's so easy! Love this sketch! ... and I'm rather pleased at how the layout turned out! I hope you have an amazing scrappy day!!!

I used Echo Park's All About A Boy collection, with several embellies: clip by Maya Road, washi and enamel dots by My Mind's Eye, flair by Evalicious, stamps by American Crafts and Jillibean Soup, chipboard by Basic Grey.  Thanks for looking!

Let's Capture Our Memories reveal #69!

It's reveal day at Let's Capture our Memories!! It's a bit funny how this layout is posted a little less than a year after the photos were taken. My little monkeys were checking out the new climbing structure at the play park at the campground. It was brisk weather, but they had a great time.

This week's sketch is by Kimberly Figures. As you can tell, I gave it a bit of a personal touch, adding 3 photos instead of 2, off-setting them a bit, and scrapping it bold and colourful, instead of shabby-chic... to each her own! And that's what a sketch is supposed to be all about- a starting point, a source of inspiration. I always manage to find a sketch to get my creativity going...

And here's my take on the sketch:

The papers used are all from the Echo Park collection All about a boy... I just love those bright colours! The hardware is from Tim Holtz, The corrugated stars are by Jillibean Soup... Love Studio Calico wood veneers!

Beach Boy- but I almost called it "Wishful thinking"...sketch #63- at Let's Capture Our Memories!

It's Reveal Day at Let's Capture Our Memories!!!

Winter still has a strong hold on us here, and we're all longing for the lazy days of summer, with warm sand between our toes, camping trips, sunshine and carefree days... The next best thing if a tropical holiday is not in the plans, is to reminisce and remember the previous summers...

This is sketch #63- by Kimberly Figures- with some cool lozenges or an argyle pattern if you wish... it's a perfect sketch to use up some of those 6x6 paper pads lying around.

This is Wave Searcher by Fancy Pants Design. I just love the colors, and I only had the 6x6 pad, so no extra embellies. I added some stitching, some vellum, a few punch flowers, a bit of bling, a button and a flair button, some stamping (Close to my heart), some fussy cutting and voilĂ ! Thanks for visiting, your comments are appreciated!

And here's my interpretation:

Special thanks to Laure Handfield for the wonderful photography- These are great memories to cherish.
Thanks for looking! Hope you have a scrappy week...

The journaling translates to: "When beautiful summer days make us forget that we're not on vacation, that's worth gold... And when the beach is 20 minutes away... priceless! We spent the evening relaxing, playing, making sand castles..."

Let's Capture Our Memories Reveal Day!

It's reveal day at LCOM! The layout sketch is by Kimberly Figures. I was a bit overwhelmed at first as I'm used to clean cut, straight line sketches, but the snowflakes in the sketch were inspiring for a few recent photos we took while playing on the "mountain" in the court. Every year, the snowplow makes this huge mountain of snow, big enough to slide down... Fun for hours!

Here is my interpretation of the sketch. Pretty true to the initial sketch if i do say so myself...

The photos are a bit overexposed, but that's the reality of capturing a sunny winter day sometimes!

The papers are all from Echo Park and so are the stickers. The flair is from Evalicious. Don't you all love the metallic silver thread? Found it in the sewing section at Michael's. I just love the extra bling it brings!

Reveal #53 at LCOM

It's reveal day at LCOM! Sketch #53 is up for you to play along. Scrapbook & Cards Today's Cardmaps 3 is up for some lucky winner to grab... Come have fun and show us what you've created...

The sketch is from Becky Fleck at Pagemaps. Easy and versatile!

Here is my take on it :

This is a photo of my boys on a camping trip with their cousins to Nova Scotia. We visited Grand-PrĂ©, the historic site protected by UNESCO and saw where our ancestors lived in the 1600s. I think what they loved most was the really old cat named Evangeline hanging out in the chapel. Poor cat, she needed a rest after our visit...  ;)

Let's Capture Our Memories- January spot!

I was very pleased to be asked by my scrappy friend Isabelle to create the layout for the January color spot at LCOM. The prospect of an imposed color challenge was a bit daunting for me, but I had a lot of fun and have since done another color challenge layout, with another "on deck"! This is such a fun way  to mix it up and explore one's creativity! Thanks Isabelle for the feature and challenge!

This is what I created for her... It's not very wintery, but it's what got me inspired.

All supplies were found in the adorable Crop & Create: Delivered fall 2013! Thanks Scrapbook & Cards Today for creating such a cool kit!!

As happy as a pig...

I saw this color scheme on Canadian Scrapbooker's facebook page... it's by Design Seeds. What a cool site for a color challenge! This is a very unusual color choice for me as my layouts are pretty bright and boyish... but a photo I have of DS#3 struck a cord for this color combo (she said with a sarcastic smile)! Sketch is from Creating With Sketches vol. 2.

Here is DS#3, in the laundry room sink, after getting rid of a particularly dirty diaper. He had some all the way up to his neck! Ick! But he seems happy enough...

I was wondering if that expression "happy as a pig in $#!&"was universal...

So sorry about the bathroom subject, but parenthood is not just flowers and pb&j sandwiches... Lol!

TFL!
